Brand It!

Let's face it—all you really need for a child's birthday party is a cake, candles and partygoers. Presents, I've noticed, are also a big hit. And games certainly don't hurt. But consider how much more fun and memorable it is when the party has a theme. My daughter's 7th birthday was kitty-themed. We put tails, ears and whiskers on the guests. We nibbled on fish crackers. We even put a sign in the bathroom to indicate where the "litter box" was located.

Think of your wellness program like an extended, themed birthday party. Infuse it with fun and your employees might just feel left out if they don't join the party.

Choose a slogan, a color scheme and a theme. In other words, brand it. No graphic designer on staff? Grab a piece of clip art and repeat it on all program materials. This becomes a wellness logo; a readily identifiable symbol of employers caring for employees and, hopefully, a symbol of fun.

Here is a sample of a wellness brand we created that invokes a collegiate feel. Around this brand you could create wellness diplomas for program completion or you could send out communications on triangle-shaped paper like college pennants. Perhaps wellness meetings could be called pep rallies. HR staff could sport Well-U sweatshirts on casual days. The important thing is to repeat, repeat, repeat your brand.
